Examining Guy Vandenbranden (1926-2014) within a broader, international context, this publication sheds new light on this key figure of post-war geometric abstraction in Belgium.
Working from Brussels and Antwerp, Vandenbranden developed a European network of artists that extended as far as Amsterdam, Dusseldorf and Milan. Artistic exchanges with artists including Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni and François Morellet place his work at the heart of developments in the post-war European avant-garde.
This richly illustrated book is the result of years of archival research. Drawing on correspondence, historical photographs and exhibition documents, it reconstructs Vandenbranden's artistic development in dialogue with his international network. This offers a fresh perspective on an artist who helped shape Belgian geometric abstraction while linking it to the international art world of his time.
